Business Hours and Riposo

If you are not familiar with the term “riposo”, you will be before you are in Italy long. Riposo is a bit like an extended lunch hour. Everything closes. Shopping or getting business done between the hours of 12:30 PM (12:30) and (at a minimum) 3:00 PM (15:00) is extremely difficult. Make sure you plan around it. You can get gas on the autostrada outside of Vicenza, but none of the local gas stations will be open in the early afternoon.

The exception to this is the stores at the malls. These stores stay open through riposo.

Stores work much like U.S. stores did in the fifties and sixties. Most stores close all day on Sunday and possibly Monday. Those stores that do open on Mondays are only open in the afternoon.

Happy Shopping!
